The first edition of the LiFF was created in 2010 and held throughout the beautiful city of Lucerne in November 2011. Originally founded by Guido Baechler with the intentions to bring Hollywood glamour to Lucerne. The LiFF was well received by all major hotels and found amazing partners with the Hotel Schweizerhof, Hotel Palace, Art-Deco Hotel Montana and the Grand Casino in Lucerne.

The exclusive festival partner since the first festival is Bild + Ton AG, a major event production company which created the most amazing atmosphere in Lucerne. For the first time the Hotel Schweizerhof was light up in a dark red color. Over 6'500 visitors attended the festival and over 185 producers and directors from all over the world showed their influential motion pictures on 7 custom erected silver screens, specially illuminated screening rooms inside the Hotel Partners.

A total of 289 movies have been shown with world premieres like "The Man on the Train" with Kiefer Sutherland and Larry Mullen, Grenoille D'Hiver with Gerard Depardieux, How to Start a Revolution (was later Oscar nominated), Sci-Fi spectacle Gothic Assassins and many more great movies.

Switzerland's Prime Minister Ueli Maurer visited the opening night ceremony where the festival proudly showed the out-of-competition Bodmers Journey.
